Logotherapy is a meaning-centred psychotherapy developed by Viktor E. Frankl (1905-1997).
It is not to be mistaken with logopaedics or speech therapy.
Frankl named his form of therapy Logotherapy after the Greek word ‘Logos’ which can be translated as ‘word’, ‘spirit’ or ‘meaning’.
It is this last sense that is most relevant for his thinking .
In relation to Freud’s Psychoanalysis and Adler’s individual psychology, Frankl’s school of ‘Logotherapy and Existential Analysis’ was called the ‘Third Viennese School of Psychotherapy’.
